Cataract Surgery
Cataract is a cloudiness of the eye's natural lens, which lies between the front and back areas of the eye. Cataract Surgery consists of a small incision made to the eye. The surgeon will either remove the lens as is, or use ultrasound, a laser, or surgical solution to break it up. A replacement lens (called an intraocular lens or IOL) is inserted. Length: 30 minutes to 1 hour. Time required to stay in the country: 8 days.
Recovery:
- Vision is usually improved the day after cataract surgery.
- Back to work: 2 to 3 days.
- More strenuous activities: 2 to 3 weeks with limited exposure to sunlight.
Patient Status: Outpatient. Anesthesia: Local, numbing eye drops are used. Sometimes an oral medication is used to help with relaxation.
